Kurt Vonnegut

The meaningless of it all is examined in Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens Of Titan.
Winston Niles Rumfoord has been for want of a better word ascended to a plane
of higher existence along with his dog. He is able to see all that will be with
godlike wisdom but can only exist as a corporeal being for brief periods on earth
every fifty nine days. Malachi Constant is a spoilt multi-millionaire playboy whose
every whim, fancy and fetish is catered for. He is told by Rumfoord that he will
undertake a journey across the solar system and that Rumfoord's estranged wife
will become Malachi's partner on this foretold adventure of a lifetime. This novel
is told with such a fluid and cynical view that you cannot help but be drawn into
the sheer ludicrousness of Mankind's search for meaning in the cosmos. Funny, showing
us (homo sapiens) for the silly little trifling things we believe we are not, and
yet refuse to accept . It's not a book which questions you to question your faith but one
which exposes how we go about doing what we do and why? It can be enjoyed either as
pure farce or on some deeper philosophical level. Whichever you choose or this book
opens your eyes, heart, soul or common sense to - you will love The Sirens Of Titan.
