Ender Wiggins is a child genius who is recruited and exploited by the
military of the planet. Earth is at war with an alien species. Ender who
has been genetically altered and created with two siblings, neither
of whom have the right balance of aggression and commanding abilities
to enter training. His brother is nothing short of a psychopath and his
sister is too much of a humanitarian. While Ender is away training and
rising rapidly through the ranks his siblings are manipulating the political
scene back home through the creation of a phantom and his ever so sagacious
and brilliant debating abilities! It beggars belief. This book deals
primarily with Ender's aggression being nurtured and rewarded and honed to
a keen edge while all along Ender battles his own pre-pubescent feelings of
angst. All the time Ender believed that he, and all other cadets he trained alongside
were in military training. All the cadets were duped. It turns out that he did
command an attack fleet on the alien world. I didn't see that plot twist coming;
the author hid the truth of it all from the reader very well. What did I thing of
this novel? It isn't detritus, poor, mediocre or better than average but a novel
over-hyped without deserving its accolades. This book turned out to be something of
a letdown.
